Studio Shots #7: One Strobe !
This week we finally started learning strobes and I am super excited about it! Here are my shots from my first time shooting with one strobe, and let me tell you…it’s easy to feel like Juergen Teller haha Thanks to Carter for being such a warrior woman!
niconicorarara asked: Hey Carmen, its Nico! Miss you!

The Craft
Things got real crafty on my living room floor tonight! I have a shoot for my “Eggness” assignment tomorrow (I’ll explain later) at Volunteer Park, so I ended up making face crowns out of pipe cleaners and homemade filters made with seran wrap and vaseline (thanks for the tip Joe!) along with glued cracked egg shells. Oh man, if you only knew all the random little trinkets...

Studio Shots #6: 4x5 Butterfly Lighting
Last week we were given an assignment to shoot a portrait using the “Butterfly Lighting” scheme (look at the “butterfly” shadow under her nose…) with the 4x5 cameras. Here’s my final image. I’m pretty happy with it but it looks like I still have some work to do with my focusing before I can achieve that beautiful crispy crispiness that 4x5 is capable...

Self Portraiture Is Hard
Recently, we got assigned to do a “Self Reflective Portrait”. We were asked to share a part of ourselves that we usually wouldn’t through a self portrait. Now, if you’re someone like me (meaning you never do self portraits and are pretty open about errythang) all you can think of is “Myyysssspppaaacceee!” Well, luckily, after what seemed like an epiphany/nap...

Once upon a time, in the glory days of sunshine and 40-something degree weather, I took my little sister to Pike Place Market to see the really sterile Gum Wall in Seattle. On the way there we shot a stop motion I had in mind to do with her for a while, so here it is! It’s cute because she used to wear that hat when she was like 4 or 5 years old (awwww!)
Stay warm everybody! It’s...

Studio Shots #5: Reflective Product Shot
Here’s my final image for a Reflective Product assignment at school, where we were supposed to shoot something reflective (duh) using one studio light. Anyways, the camera is a pendant on a necklace, I mean, a really hi-tech gadget, I got for Christmas from my mom…
Oh yeah, thanks for assisting me and then making me dinner/watching Living Single Carter!

Feeling (Window) Light
Here are some of my picks (unedited) from a recent window shoot I did for class with my two very good friends Doris and Lauren. Despite the lack of light I would have liked for a more dramatic lighting scheme, I was happily surprised with the whole “less is more” situation I had to work with. Plus, I am really loving how the grayish blue looks with the skin tones and the blacks...

This weekend I had the pleasure of finally (FINALLY!) getting together with my good friend Forrest in Bellingham to make a stop motion I had in mind and was saving just for him. I envisioned something like Gulliver’s Travels, except the little people would be an army of beads being driven by two forceful plastic skeleton hand lollipops to take over his face. Two hours and lots of glitter...

NEYOPolitan Ice Cream
Sometimes I just want my entire creative professional portfolio to be made up of Photoshop work…I present to you “NEYOpolitan Ice Cream”(GET IT?????)! It’s important that the art world understands what an important role puns play in my life before they decide to make me a star. Duh.

Exploring Memory's Vault
….but really just brainstorming the land in Port Townsend with my dream boy.
P.S. You know that a place has history when the creepy atmosphere kicks in before the sun goes down. Fort Worden, I’m talkin’ to you!

1st Day of (S)c(h)ool
Sometimes you get excited about the first day of school and feel the need to document how you looked before you went out the door because hey, you took the time to plan it out the night before (can I get a witness? ladies?)…Well, anyways…
The first day of school went well! Didn’t fall down a flight of stairs (trust me, Seattle Central’s got those) or have to eat any...
