Seeing A Camera Vomit

As much as I’d like the title of this post to refer to being a really badass surfer who feels the need to protect her surf spot for her and her surf crew, it actually refers to something even cooler! I am the local artist on display at my work, Omega Photo, for the month of April! If any of you are in the area you should totally check it out!  And if you don’t like my work you should still go to Omega Photo because everyone that works there is awesome and super friendly and they will help you with all your camera/photography needs! But let’s just say you like my work, so you should go in there and demand to buy a print! Tell them Carmen sent you :-D

This is well overdue, but here is a portrait I did of my beautiful friend Emma as a rendition of Gustav Klimt’s unfinished painting “Portrait Of Johanna Staude”. All it took was my mom’s purple shawl, my sister’s black feathered boa, some orange Ikea curtains and my first time attempt at hair and makeup. It’s funny what you end up telling your models to get them to give you the expression you’re looking for. I believe my line was “Part your lips and give me stoned eyes!” and this is what I got. A big thank you to Emma for all her help and patience:) Stop motion to follow soon!

P.S. Here is a picture my boyfriend took on accident of us, amazing. I wish I was alive when Gustav Klimt painted, it would have been beautiful to get my portrait done by him.

Last night I dreamt that I was with my best friend Lauren in her apartment in New York and I woke up with this rush and pounding in my heart. Not a bad rush, but more of like a realization that what I want so bad isn’t completely incapable of happening. I am getting really excited for this summer, in the hopes that all my plans fall through. I also found my very first gray lock of hair yesterday at work. Hopefully that’s a good sign.

So about a couple weeks ago I got an assignment to shoot whatever I wanted, but it had to use either the color red or the color black as the dominant color. I am really happy with how the shoot turned out, for me it’s the most recent photos I’ve shot that I feel best represent the direction I want to take my photography. And now that I’m looking for internships, having that better sense of self feels really good. And of course, I am always so grateful to all of my friends who keep letting me put them in front of a camera and can get just as excited as I get about a photo shoot. Looking forward to my lil’ weekend getaway with this fine lady!

If you haven’t already noticed, my blog has been slower than a frozen snail. That’s because in this last week of school I have been working on this big self promo project, searching for photographers to assist and places to intern and pretty much just facing my fears of the real (photo) world. Oh, and writing awful cover letters late at night that include the phrase “It takes two to tango” in them (rough draft ftw). Point is, I’m slackin’ and I wanna pick up my slack where I left off. So, expect a lot a lot a lot of photos and a couple new stop motions headed your way, there’s a lot I gotta show you!

Meant to do this yesterday but speaking of internships..C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S to my dear friend Dustin Sohn for landing an internship at the art department of a Wes Anderson movie! I am so happy and proud of you and constantly amazed + inspired by all my friends! You go Glenn Coco! 

Hopefully I can find a fashion photographer in New York to assist so I can stay with my East Coast lovelies this summer!

Like I said, I’m working on being more efficient with editing and posting my photos, especially when I get people so excited about the shoot but never show them the pictures! So, to honor one of my fabulous friends, I have for you pictures from a shoot where I shot through a couple homemade filters. I can’t wait to do more shoots with Mandy, especially when it’s not so crummy outside! P.S. So my school has a magazine called “Central Circuit” and they did a feature on me and my photography! Originally, I thought that they were going to do just a small little artist blurb, but they liked my work enough to give me 3 pages and the cover. Can’t wait to show my parents haha 

Just bought my tickets for the opening night of Nick Cave’s “Meet Me At The Center Of The Earth” exhibition. There’s gonna be music, dancing soundsuits, dancing in general and Nick Cave himself! Can. Not. Wait.
