The Mojave Desert

Last weekend, while Los Angeles was bracing itself for a weekend of traffic hell so appropriately named as “Carmageddon”, Elizabeth and I hit the road in search of heat and beautiful landscape out in the Mojave Desert. Equipped with all our camera gear, a handful of ideas and the knowledge of a forecasted full moon in our midst, we set forth to explore a place none of us had been to before. It was amazing.

*The images of Elizabeth are only a couple from the photoshoot I did with her out at the desert. The rest of them will be released at a later date!

Portraits I’ve taken of Elizabeth since we’ve been here in L.A. with her new 85mm Zeiss lens. It’s a cinematic beaut!

Things seen on my daily walk to and from my photographer’s house. Also fun fact, that second image is of John Marshall High School, where the final scene of Grease was filmed! So awesome!

Real Talk From A Photographer and Gelato

image

Today was the first day of my internship and it was a very low key, laid back and easy going first day filled with researching different marketable photo clients and one-on-one real talk in the patio about the struggle and hustle of being a photographer. This trip has been a real eye-opener to the fact that I have chosen to pursue a career that will not be an easy path unless I marry a prince or money starts to grow on trees. But it’s what I need to know. The more I know, the better. I think by the end of this summer I will have learned not only a lot about what it takes to be a photographer but a lot about myself!

In other news, I got a Mamiya 645 to help me convince my photographer to take portraits of her. It’s gonna happen. I mean, we already got gelato together and listened to old school rap in her car.

No Sleep

image

Sometimes, even in a different city, you find yourself dealing with your nighttime excitement nerves the same way you would anywhere else. Not sleeping and doing things with photos. Tomorrow is the first day of my internship with Sarah St. Clair Renard and I got stomach butterflies as if it were going to be the first day at a new school!

This Fantastic Voyage!

image

Well kids, today is the day Elizabeth Rudge and I hit the road and set forth on a fantastic voyage down the West Coast to our photo internship destination in Los Angeles! We will be equipped with a handful of cameras (including the petite and powerful Mamiya 645 thanks to a very generous co-worker) and a dedication to visually share with all of you our experiences for the next month! I will still be updating my own personal blog here at SACV, but make sure to follow mine and Elizabeth’s blog, A Double Vision!

I will miss you all! xo
